broken – weekly photo challenge

For this challenge, when I read the word broken, I first imagined the literal and thought of something breaking into pieces, such as a glass, or something obvious. And then, I was thinking of societies and countries and their governments and how they are too often broken, in not such a literal way. However in the end, I choose to google the word Broken, and from the definition, I focused the following: “damaged and no longer in one piece”.

broken: having been fractured or damaged and no longer in one piece or in working order.

So from this I am using recent photos which I took in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia. There are a lot of beautiful and old shophouses that are in fact very damaged and falling apart. For what ever reasons they are slowly breaking down. Perhaps the owners no longer care to upkeep them, or they don’t have the money to do so, either way, something has broken along the way of their existence and lead them to decay and to “no longer [be] in one piece or in working order”.
